Madikeri
Distance from Bekal: 108 Km
Madikeri is one of those plantation towns up in the hills right out of the books. It smells of coffee and is surrounded by the Western Ghats. This hill town is in the Coorg/ Kodagu district in Southern Karnataka. The town is only a three-hour drive away from Bekal. Madikeri always has this pleasant weather, and the temperature mostly stays between 11°C to 27°C.
Madikeri is known for housing a bunch of coffee plantations and most of the population is involved in growing coffee beans. All the major tourist attractions in the town come with a free tour of coffee plantations as they are either situated in or surrounded by coffee and spice plantations.
Abbey Falls is one of the most visited places in Madikeri. It is in a coffee plantation where River Kaveri stumbles upon a bunch of rocks and makes a sloppy fall. A hanging bridge is set up to get the best view. Raja’s seat is another most visited spots of the town. The name moodbridi translates to mood – east and bidiru- bamboo. The word is that bamboo widely grew in the town of Moodbidri in ancient times. However, there are no bamboos around in present day Moodbidri.
The town is the best place to explore Jainism. The town has several Jain temples, and it was ruled by Jain dynasty in the 17th century. One of the major attractions is the Thousand Pillars Temple. Each pillar in the temple has a different carving, and yet they make for a bigger picture by complementing each other. Malom

Malom is a typical Malabar village located on the slopes of Western Ghats. The name Malom originated from a Malayalam phrase that roughly translates to ‘The land of hills’. This charming village is only one and a half hours away from Bekal. Due to chilly weather and lush green backdrop, Malom is known as the Coorg of Kerala.
You can explore several waterfalls in Malom. Some of the favourites are Theanvarikallu, Ottemalam, Achankallu, Edakkanam and Chullithattu. They are situated in Maruthom forest on Malom Hills. This remote village is blessed with natural beauty.
